Red Tip Tungsten

Our Red Tip 2% Thoriated Tungsten Electrodes are a popular choice for DC Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding due to their exceptional arc starting capabilities and stable arc. Containing 1.70% to 2.20% thorium oxide, these electrodes excel in welding carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, titanium, and copper alloys with direct current. They can be easily ground to a sharp point for precise arc control and good weld penetration. While capable of AC welding, they are not the preferred choice for aluminum and magnesium. Please be aware that thoriated tungsten is radioactive and requires adherence to proper safety procedures during handling, grinding, and disposal. Available in various diameters and lengths to suit your TIG torch and application needs.

Key Features:

  • Red Tip Color Code: Standard identification for 2% thoriated tungsten.
  • 1.70-2.20% Thorium Oxide: Enhances arc starting and stability.
  • Excellent Arc Starts: Reliable ignition for efficient welding.
  • Stable Arc: Provides a smooth and consistent welding arc.
  • Superior DC Performance: Ideal for welding various ferrous and non-ferrous metals with direct current.
  • Good Weld Penetration: Sharp point allows for focused heat.
  • Durable: Offers a lower burn-off rate compared to pure tungsten.

Important Safety Note: Thoriated tungsten is radioactive. Always follow proper safety procedures for handling, grinding (use with ventilation and respiratory protection), and disposal according to local regulations. Consider non-radioactive alternatives for your welding applications
